Why is the Elden Ring DLC taking so long?

The Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has been in development since April 2022 according to Lead Game Designer Kenneth Chan’s LinkedIn profile, spotted by @Ziostorm1 on Twitter. Rumors have indicated the expansion is quite sizeable and this is likely to be why the developer is taking their time.

FromSoftware has only revealed the DLC to be an expansion set in the Lands Between. Other rumors purporting to show trailers and other story and gameplay information have been proven to be false.

The developer is yet to reveal a release date or even a release window for the upcoming DLC expansion, although this is expected to be some time after Armored Core 6, whose release date is sometime this year. What is more certain, though, is that FromSoftware’s attention is currently divided between this DLC and Armored Core 6, and there is no other game in development.

Will Media Molecule be closed as the Senior Producer leaves?

Media Molecule has no plans to close the studio at the moment. While Suzy Wallace follows the studio’s co-founder Mark Healey in leaving the studio for pastures new, and live support and updates are winding down for their latest title Dreams, the studio is merely changing direction.

According to current Studio Director Siobhan Reddy, the studio is working on a new project that is “exciting but too early for us to talk about.” More information on this is expected at a later date.

In the meantime, Wallace has become Development Director at Firesprite on a “new, exciting project” according to a LinkedIn post (thanks @sami_odyssey). Firesprite has multiple projects in progress right now, including three new games. These are a “blockbuster” action-adventure game, a AAA quality “ground-breaking next generation PvP shooter project with a Games as a Service focus,” and a AAA “dark, story-driven next-generation ‘Narrative Adventure’ with genre-defining goals.” It’s unknown which of these will be the project on which Wallace is working.

EA wants players to stop sharing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor spoilers

Not only has EA requested players to “be mindful of others and avoid posting or sharing spoilers” ahead of the release of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on April 28, but developers from Respawn have also been posting their own concerns. Senior Writer Pete Stewart pointed out that “for us it’s REALLY disheartening to see [spoilers] as well”, while EA’s Global Director of Integrated Comms for Shooters & Star Wars Andy McNamara asked players to “please be respectful of the experience for others.”

The spoilers can still be seen across the internet on places like Twitter and Reddit, so be careful with your browsing ahead of the start of preloading tonight at 9 PM PT. The PS5 file size has been reported as over 140 GB and even those with a disc copy will need to download some aspects of the game.

When does the Golden Week sale begin on the PlayStation Store?

Sony is yet to make an official announcement about the Golden Week sale but the discounts are expected to go live on the Playstation Store later today, April 25. The sale traditionally covers the Golden Week event in Japan, which runs between April 29 and May 5 this year.

The Golden Week sale, as spotted by Reddit, currently includes 425 games, bundles, and DLC items, although this list could grow by the time the sale goes live. Just some of the games and franchises included in the sale are:

Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores update 1.22 patch notes

The aim of patch 1.22 was to fix three burning issues. As well as the game crashing and Time of Day getting stuck permanently, the other issue fixed was that Dino Digits Quiz rewards should now be awarded to players properly regardless of their unlock conditions.

If players are encountering different bugs, the team at Guerrilla Games asks if they could be informed through the support form. In terms of known issues, this is what is currently being investigated:

• Some players have reported progression issues with Aerial Captures
• Some players are reporting issues with quest progression

Burning Shores has garnered interesting review scores, with many players deciding to review bomb the game following controversy over Aloy’s “sexual orientation” and a perceived “political agenda.” Despite this, Guerrilla seems to be moving ahead with the final part of the trilogy as well as an “exciting online project.”

Crash Team Rumble takes fruit collecting to a whole new level

The cinematic intro shows two teams of four characters attempting to gather Wumpa Fruit, but it’s not as simple as picking it from a tree or bush. Wumpa Fruit is found in crates liberally scattered across the map, but it can also seemingly be stolen by beating up opposing players and taking their loot. There’s even a glimpse of the powers of Uka Uka.

Thailand-based RiFF Studio has done a great job of introducing players to the spirit of the game in the cinematic that they created. If that’s got you in the mood to start thinking about strategies before the game is released in June, take a look at the tips and tricks from Toys for Bob.

In more disappointing news, Sony Pictures Animation hasn’t commented on Toys For Bob’s original tweet so we’re yet to find out whether there will be Crash Bandicoot movie.

More than 50 PS Plus Premium trials now available

The addition of MLB The Show 23 to the list today makes a total of 52 PS Plus Premium trials available to subscribers. The trial offers the entire game up for players to try, including Diamond Dynasty and Road to the Show, for a maximum of three hours.

After entering early access on April 18, Disney Speedstorm introduced a two-hour trial for PS Plus Premium members. While the game will be going free-to-play in the future, players currently need to purchase Founder’s Packs to gain further access to the game once the trial is over. However, PS Plus members can also grab a free Exclusive Pack that includes the Jack Sparrow Sterling Duelist Suit, Jack Sparrow Sea Vandals Livery, and Sea Vandals Avatar.

Finally, DE-EXIT Eternal Matters was a surprise addition and isn’t even included in Sony’s list of PS Plus game trials. The voxel-style game offers a combination of puzzles, stealth, platforming, and action but players only get one hour to try out the game before the trial expires.

As usual, if you decide to purchase the games after the trial period, your progress will be carried over.

How soon will Skate 4 PS5 playtesting happen?

One of the first things the team mentioned in the newest Board Room episode is that console playtesting will happen. Senior Creative Director Cuz Parry said the team “hasn’t got there yet” and that it will be a while before they’re ready to release playtests on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The team will have “more to share” on console playtesting in the future, but playtesting remains PC only for now.

The Board Room episode also went into more detail about some of the game’s features. The team isn’t ready to talk about the game’s story right now, but they did introduce Activities that will be “ever-changing and evolving.” They’ll be suitable for players of all skill levels and some of them may even step away from skateboarding for a while like climbing challenges. There are three types of activities the team are working on right now:

• Challenges – Short, solo challenges that will rotate in and out, changing slightly every time they reappear so they can be replayed.
• Pop-Ups – Dynamic co-op events around the city that are fairly short and “not super hard”. For example, one event could require players to score 50,000 points between the group.
• Community Events – A multiplayer mode likened to carnival games where everybody wants to play them but you don’t have to be an expert to participate.
• Throwdowns – Customizable player-initiated events to show off tricks, practice, and make friends.

The team also reiterated that they’re still working on the game’s reward system, but there will not be paid lootboxes included in the free-to-play title.

There’s a new threat on the Horizon (3)

Horizon Forbidden West pitted Aloy against the Far Zenith human civilization, but it turned out that there was to be an even bigger threat to face in the future. The Burning Shores DLC sees Aloy travel to a new area south of the Tenakth Clan Lands to find more information on this new enemy. Without giving anything away for those who haven’t played the DLC yet following today’s release, the main story missions imply the next game in the franchise was to feature a major role for Sylens.

Of course, both the game and the DLC expansion were developed before the death of Sylens’ actor. It’s unclear whether the character will continue to have a role in Horizon 3 or how the story will be adapted following the loss of Lance Reddick. In a statement following his tragic passing, developer Guerrilla Games had said he “will be so incredibly missed.”

The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Trophy lists are fairly similar

Each of the six games in Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series will have its own trophy list that comes with a Platinum trophy. While there are story-based trophies for all of the games, there are a lot of similarities between those lists as seen on Exophase. Every game has trophies for defeating a set number of monsters, completing the Bestiary entries, obtaining a certain amount of gil, finding hidden items, and traveling to all map locations. A lot of game exploration will be needed to get all of those Platinum trophies.

The good news is that there are some trophies that pertain to the games’ unique gameplay features, such as leveling up skills, jobs, party members, and learning magic. It’s a perfect challenge to take on while waiting for the release of Final Fantasy XVI in June, although the game won’t be available on PS4.
