Resident Evil 4 Remake April 23, 2023 update patch notes

The update weighs just under 500 MB on PS5. Complete patch notes courtesy of Capcom are as follows:

[PlayStation 5 / PlayStation 4 / Xbox Series X|S / Steam]

• An issue where certain key items become unobtainable, preventing the player from progressing through the main story, has been fixed. (Announced March 31, 2023)
• An issue causing players to warp through walls when using the scope in certain areas has been fixed.

[PS5 / PS4]

• Incorrect text displaying for certain trophy explanations in some languages has been fixed.
  (Brazilian Portuguese and Latin American Spanish)

[XSX|S]

• An issue preventing the game from launching when downloadable content has been installed and an account with content restrictions is logged in has been fixed.
• Fixes to the stick dead zone (the range in which the controller’s sticks don’t respond to movement) made on April 7 have been further adjusted.
• Changes to the graphics rendering process made on April 7 have been readjusted.

• Other miscellaneous bug fixes.

Street Fighter 6 Fighting Ground contains versus battles and arcade

Street Fighter 6 multiplayer experience is called Fighting Ground, which contains local and online versus battles, and training and arcade modes. There is also a multiplayer Battle Hub, which is an online lobby of sorts.

The single-player mode is called World Tour, which is described as an “immersive” experience in which players will “explore Metro City and beyond,” meeting Masters along the way and learning various fighting techniques.

The aforementioned Xbox Store page, spotted by EventHubs, is still up at the time of this writing. We have yet to see a similar page on PS Store that lists Street Fighter 6’s single-player and multiplayer as separate downloads, but we can’t imagine there being any difference in the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game.

Street Fighter 6 will release on June 2, 2023.

The planned Exoprimal post-launch title updates

Exoprimal will get title updates after its release that will include seasonal updates, game collaborations, and new Exosuit variants “that use different equipment for different play styles, like Deadeye with a burst-fire rifle that can also be used as a shotgun.” Dino Crisis would be the most obvious Capcom game crossover, especially as the franchise’s producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi is involved with Exoprimal. However, at the moment Capcom has not confirmed any of the collaborations.

The team also revealed a full feature list that players can expect from the game at launch. This follows concerns from players who felt restricted by the game modes available in the recent open beta. The full list includes:

• Missions without direct combat between players where victory is determined by clearing the PvE objectives as fast as possible
• Cutscenes and an Analysis Map where players can explore Exoprimal’s story and the mysteries surrounding Leviathan and parallel worlds
• Story-related missions in Dino Survival
• 10-player co-op missions with a variety of objectives and even fiercer dinosaurs
• A variety of maps like Dam and Volcanic Base
• 5-player missions that rotate weekly with global leaderboards for fastest completion time
• Equipment called Modules that allow for deeper customization of exosuit capabilities
• Exosuit skins, weapon skins, decals, emotes, and other cosmetic options
• In-game medals and awards for completing certain challenges, like blocking a certain amount of damage as a Tank suit

The full Exoprimal experience will be available on July 14 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC via Steam, and Microsoft Store.

Resident Evil 4 Remake PS5 and PS4 sales double those of Xbox and PC

Approximately 65% of RE4’s UK sales were on PS5 and PS4, almost double the combined 35% of sales on Xbox (20%) and PC (15%) according to data from GSD (thanks GamesIndustry.biz). This is most likely a side effect of the increased PS5 sales while Xbox has declined.

Last-gen players would need to pick up a PS4 copy seeing as the game is not on Xbox One, but the PlayStation Store top downloads for March 2023 hinted that last-gen sales were only a small proportion of the overall totals. Resident Evil 4 sits comfortably at the top of the PS5 download chart, beating MLB The Show 23 and Hogwarts Legacy. On the contrary, RE4 only hit #5 on PS4 in US and Canada and #9 in Europe.

Resident Evil 4 has not sold quite as well as RE Village and RE 2 Remake, although it is currently outselling RE 3 Remake. Free content like the Mercenaries update and the upcoming PSVR 2 patch will only serve to help sales in the future.

Lily Gao’s statement on Resident Evil 4 Remake’s Ada Wong

In a statement published on her Instagram, Gao wrote that she’s honored to have been picked for the role and is grateful to Capcom for choosing a more accurate representation of the character. Unlike original actress Jolene Anderson, Gao is Chinese-Canadian.

“It’s unfortunate that with the game’s release, also came the all too familiar feeling of ‘I don’t belong,'” Gao said. “While criticism is expected, it’s not the first time an actor of color faces racist and sexist harassment for simply participating. Inauthentic casting perpetuates an unhealthy image that further dehumanizes the community they seek to reflect.”

Gao said that her version of Ada Wong isn’t a stereotypical sexualized, mysterious Asian woman often depicted in various forms of media and entertainment. “My Ada is a survivor,” she concluded. “She is kind, just, intelligent, and funny.”

Capcom has not released a statement on the matter.

Monster Energy had Ubisoft change the name of a game in the past

As reported by Automaton Media in Japan, the rights holder of Monster Energy has filed trademark registration objections to Monster Hunter and even Pokemon, because it says that its brand would be confused with them.

This all seems very silly and frivolous, but Monster Energy successfully had Ubisoft change the game previously known as Gods and Monsters to now Immortals Fenyx Rising. So the consequences are quite real.

Fortunately, the Japan Patent Office isn’t having any of this, and has stated that “there is no risk of causing confusion as to the origin of the product.”

I mean, I’m not sure Monster Energy really wants to open this can of worms any further, because by the same logic, Nintendo and Capcom could argue that it’s Monster Energy that is causing the confusion here. Or perhaps any company with “Energy” in its name could go after them too. At any rate, this doesn’t exactly make me want to drink anything from Monster Energy (not that I would anyway).

It was confirmed that Monster Hunter Rise will not have a physical release on PS5 and PS4, and Capcom has released a RE4 Remake parody anime.

RE4 Remake Mercenaries update makes the game less blurry on PS5

As indicated by several users on Reddit, the overall image quality has been enhanced, which matches the patch notes where the update fixes a PS5 graphics rendering process that made certain environment details blurry. Meanwhile, the patch notes only say that Capcom has improved the frame rate for Xbox Series X|S.

That said, the Reddit user who started the thread further notes that the only section in the Resident Evil 4 Remake that stutters at around 48 fps in Resolution mode looks to be the part when Leon is fighting in the village during a storm. But other than that, the frame rate has apparently been smooth. For clarity, this is with an LG CX television with ray tracing off but hair strands on.

On the downside, some fans have been disappointed with Mercenaries mode missing characters and levels, and introducing pay-to-win microtransactions. The game has also been review bombed for being apparently ‘woke.’

Resident Evil 4 Remake Mercenaries mode launch content

Mercenaries mode is apparently launching tomorrow, April 7, with four characters: Leon, Luis, Krauser, and HUNK. There will also be three levels, which are Village, Castle, and the Island according to gameplay footage found by ResetEra.

A previous datamine had revealed the mode would have six characters as well as four levels. Ada Wong and Albert Wesker are the two missing characters from Resident Evil 4’s Mercenaries mode, while Leon was also expected to have an alternate costume. Disappointed that this content is missing, fans are now hoping it will be released alongside the rumored Separate Ways DLC.

Another issue for those players is that new DLC has appeared on the PlayStation Store in the form of Weapon Upgrade Ticket bundles. These tickets can be redeemed at any time at the Merchant’s shop in exchange for a weapon’s exclusive upgrade and can be purchased far in excess of the two already available to earn in the game’s campaign. It’s worth noting, though, that these tickets can’t be used in Mercenaries mode and will not be allowed to affect the leaderboards.

Resident Evil 4 Remake is being review bombed across all platforms

Trolls have spared no platform. As pointed out on ResetEra and Reddit, Resident Evil 4 Remake is being review bombed across all platforms listed on Metacritic, bringing its user scores down so low that they look ridiculous compared to the overwhelmingly positive critic reception.

“It’s even woke in areas,” reads one review that doesn’t explain what on earth that means. “Ada Wong censored,” complains another. “Ashley censored, politically correct reworks of dialogues.”

Other 0/10 reviews complain about Ashley’s tights and bits, among other things.

Last week, Ada Wong voice actress Lilly Gao faced an intense harassment campaign from players who were upset about the original voice actress (Jolene Anderson) being replaced. The relentless attacks caused Gao to remove all her posts from her Instagram profile and later scrub her social media presence.

It’s unclear if Metacritic is taking any action against the review bombing, which has been ongoing for almost a week now. Capcom has not addressed the issue.

The controversy surrounding Ada in Resident Evil 4 Remake

The controversy surrounding Anderson’s replacement dates back to late last year when Capcom announced the game’s cast. Fans were unhappy that Anderson wasn’t reprising her role, but others pointed out that Gao – who is Chinese-Canadian – would offer a more accurate representation.

Nevertheless, some critics felt that Gao didn’t deliver, but it had more to do with the direction she was given rather than the quality of her work.

Enter the trolls, who took it upon themselves to scope out Gao’s social media profiles and harass her to the point where she locked down comments on an Instagram post celebrating Resident Evil 4 Remake’s successful launch. But that apparently wasn’t enough to deter trolls, who started leaving disgusting and abusive comments on her other, unrelated Instagram posts.

At some point, it all became a little too much for Gao, who has now scrubbed her entire Instagram profile to prevent trolls from commenting altogether.
