Xbox says PS Plus price might be lowered after merger

In its response to the CMA on a notice of possible remedies, Microsoft says that including Activision content on Xbox Game Pass would lead to improvements for PS Plus:

By enabling Microsoft to compete more effectively against Sony, the Merger can also be expected to push Sony to improve its subscription offering, to the benefit of its more than 46 million subscribers, which would in turn result in lower prices, higher quality and/or greater choice for console customers.

Microsoft also claims that Sony offered new PS Plus tiers and additional content “in response to the announcement of the Merger.” That ignores the argument that these PS Plus changes might have been made in reaction to Xbox Game Pass in general rather than the merger.

In addition, unless Activision’s catalog would also be offered on PS Plus after the potential merger, saying that it would result in “greater choice” for PS Plus customers seems a bit of a stretch.

If the Microsoft Activision deal were to go through, Call of Duty exclusive DLC will likely end. The EU will reportedly not make Microsoft sell Call of Duty in the deal.

PSN is back up and running.

Original story:

PSN is down in several regions including the United States and United Kingdom right now. PlayStation Network services seem to be partially affected on the PS4 and PS5.

Sony’s network status page confirms PSN is down

At the time of this writing, the PlayStation Network status page shows that PS Store, PS Direct, and Gaming and Social services are down across Sony’s platforms.

“You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features,” reads a notice on PlayStation’s official website. “We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.”

As far as the PS Store is concerned, Sony has said players might have trouble peforming some or all of the following actions:

• Purchase
• Download
• Browse
• Search
• Redeem vouchers

Account management services and PS Video are not impacted at present.

The outage originally began about an hour ago and it’s unclear when it’ll be fixed. If you’re having trouble playing single-player games, we suggest temporarily disconnecting your console from the internet if the game doesn’t require online connectivity to run.

We’ll make sure to update our readers when we have more information.

PS Store down in Croatia due to currency change

The issue stems from a currency change that the Croatian government announced well ahead of time.

According to one ResetEra user, Croatia announced that it’ll be transitioning to Euro from Kuna in the beginning of 2022, giving companies ample time to implement changes. It has been smooth sailing, for the most part, but Sony has been unable to keep up.

Apparently, Croatian users received an email informing them that PS Store purchases will be disabled temporarily two months ago, and were given free PS Plus Essential to compensate. However, there’s been no communication since then, and folks are having to purchase prepaid PSN cards, which some users claim are hard to find.

The issue has become a serious headache for those with digital PS5 consoles and primacy accounts set in Croatia.

Granted Croatia isn’t a huge market for Sony (they did get some cool PlayStation stamps, though), this is some pretty poor planning on the company’s part. Here’s hoping the issue is resolved soon.
