PROVO, Utah — The Provo Police Department responded to a motel where a man barricaded himself inside a room Monday afternoon.

Police were called to the location at 40 W. 300 South at approximately 3:30 p.m.

In an update provided Monday evening, officials said a court constable was delivering eviction papers to the man in the room — later identified as Jerod Agee. The constable reportedly saw a gun inside and heard gunshots while attempting to serve the papers. That's when police were called in, and a multi-agency negotiation and SWAT operation was conducted.

Police negotiated with Agee and evacuated nearby rooms to give officers space during the situation.

Agee was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for evaluation. He was later released from the hospital and booked in jail facing charges of trespass of a dwelling, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.
